Open License
Open License Program
Microsoft Open Licence is a volume discount agreement for organisations with as little as two desktop PCs. It is perpetual: the licences are bought outright and paid for upfront, but it is possible to add to the number of licences after the initial purchase. Academic organisations receive additional discounts.
Open Licence customers receive a volume discount. The level of discount depends on the volume bought at the start of the agreement. This discount then applies to additional licences bought during the following two years. The minimum initial order is five licences.
Do I qualify for an Open Licence?
With a purchase of a minimum of five Microsoft licences, you qualify for Open Licence. For example, if you have two desktop PCs, you can qualify for Open Licence by purchasing two licences of Microsoft Office XP, two licences of Project 2002, and a single licence of Windows XP Pro upgrade.
How Does It Work
An Open Licence is a perpetual licence (i.e. everlasting) and the whole payment is made upfront. However, with the initial order you enter into an Open Licence agreement which lasts two years. All this means is that you are entitled to purchase additional licences under this agreement at the Open Licence discounted price.
